National Portrait Gallery, London

In 2005, the descendants of the artist donated the major part of de László’s archive to the National Portrait Gallery (Heinz Library & Archive). The Special Display was mounted to celebrate the completion of the indexing of some 15,000 scanned documents by the catalogue raisonné team. The portraits selected and the accompanying booklet emphasised the importance of the artist’s oeuvre during the period of his internment during the First World War. The portraits of Jerome K. Jerome and the 5th Marquess of Landsdowne from the National Portrait Galleries’s collection were included and the remainder from private collections, most of them rarely seen by the public.
