This exhibition of sixteen masterpieces was the first in the country of his birth in nearly 100 years. It marked the turning point in restoring de László's reputation in Hungary as one of the greatest portrait painters of the 20th century. It was attended by some 30,000 visitors, a record for a Hungarian artist. The catalogue has been long-listed for the William MB Berger Prize for British Art History 2020.
